Thai Cooking with Organic Lemon Tree Leaves

Elements of Greek mythology have appeared throughout the years in culture and pop culture. These elements have been used in Renaissance art and English poems, as well as film and literature, songs and commercials, and even online gaming and gambling.

In 2002, Ensemble Studios released Age of Mythology, a mythology-based real-time strategy computer game, which was a commercial success. Even Gaming Realms, operator of Greek-based game Bingogodz, created characters based on Greek mythology such Zantos, Afro-Dity, Aunty Iris, Earos, among others. The culture of Ancient Rome has also adopted Greek myths and also created their own gods and goddesses like Jupiter, the Roman equivalent for Zeus, Venus for Aphrodite, Mars for Ares, Minerva for Athena, etc.

There are also similarities between Greek mythology and Thai folklore. The Greek story of Psyche and Eros, depicts the love between a mortal woman and a God, in which Psyche has to perform difficult tasks to get Eros’ mother Aphrodite’s approval. The story of Phra Suthon and Manorah, portrays the love between a Prince and a beautiful half-woman, half-bird, they were later separated so Pra Suthon has to accomplish impossible tasks to get Manorah back.

Here is a Thai recipe that is also similar to a Greek recipe that uses lemon or lime tree leaves with shrimps or prawns. The only difference is the Greek recipe uses whole grain rice while the Thai recipe has a healthier twist as it uses brown rice flour noodles.


4 tablespoons of healthy oil

2 cloves of garlic, minced

4 shallots, thinly-sliced

10 medium sized shrimp/prawns

2 lightly beaten eggs

organic lemon or lime tree leaves

4 tablespoons lime juice

1 package of Annie Chun's Pad Thai brown rice noodles

2 tablespoons of cilantro, chopped

3 tablespoons of green onions or chives

Marinate your shrimp overnight wrapped in lime or lemon tree leaves and then cook the shrimp. You could warm the shrimp in the pan with the citrus tree leaves and then discard the leaves.

Cook the brown rice noodles according to package instructions. After cooking the noodles, rinse with cold water to maintain its consistency. Add 4 tablespoons of lime juice to the cooked brown rice noodles and shrimps.

Now heat the shrimp in a pot or pan with the oil and then add the eggs, garlic and shallots. Scramble the eggs with the shrimp, then add cilantro and green onions. Add the cooked brown noodles to the pan. Heat everything up and serve warm. Garnish with slices of lime when you serve.
